The June Moreland BUG ride

This month's BUG ride is to ride to the annual World Refugee Day rally, which takes place this Sunday (June 17) from 12 noon.

The rally meets at the Melbourne Museum, cnr Nicholson & Gertrude St, Carlton and heads across to the Fitzroy Town Hall to meet up with the Multicultural Arts Victoria Emerge Festival – a fun event stacked with food, music and market stalls from all over the world.

The plan is to meet at CERES (8 Lee St, East Brunswick) at 11am; we'll have plenty of time for a coffee and muffin, then we can jump on our bikes and head down to the museum to join the rally. It's a peaceful affair so will be family-friendly – there's usually even balloons. After checking out the festival and filling our bellies we can head over to Yarra Bend Park for a leisurely ride home along the trail.

May ride report

We had thirteen riders for the May BUG ride yesterday.

We started at CERES and rode:

  • Along the Merri Creek path to Rushall Station
  • The Capital City trail along the Linear Park, past the Zoo and down to the Moonee Ponds path
  • Into Docklands (for a coffee)
  • Down to, and then along, along the light rail shared path to Port Melbourne
  • Along the beach path from Port Melbourne to Beacon Cove and on to Westgate Park
  • Through Westgate Park to the river punt

The punt across the Yarra River is running on weekends and public holidays and costs $3 for anyone over the age of 10.

We caught the river punt (in two stages, as the punt only holds 12 people and there was a group of riders already there) to Newport and rode along the bay to Williamstown.

We finished the ride with fish & chips in Williamstown.

After Williamstown, some people caught the train home while others rode back via Footscray Rd and along the Moonee Ponds bike path – Capital City trail.

See you next month!
